INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Cut small foam egg in half lengthwise. Cut 1"-thick, lengthwise slices from one side of large foam egg and from one side of foam cone; set aside all pieces. Cut and discard thin slice from each foam ball. Trace umbrella handle pattern onto slice cut from foam cone; cut out.
2. Use compass to draw one 8" and one 2" circle on wrong side of fleece. Draw 3" circle on red felt and 6" circle on green felt. Cut circles and patterns from fabrics as indicated.
3. To cover duck's head, place large ball, rounded side down, in center of 8" fleece circle. Bring fleece up to flat side. Pin fleece at four opposite points; gather excess between pins. Glue fleece to foam; let dry. Remove pins. Glue 2" fleece circle to flat side (back) of head.
4. Using photo as guide, use scissors point to make two small holes, 1/2" apart, for eyes. Glue beads into holes. Glue upper and lower beak pieces together in pairs. Glue beak to face, curving slightly so outer edges meet. Glue center beak to head between upper and lower beaks.
5. To cover duck's body, place each piece of large foam egg on wrong side of fleece, flat side down. Draw a line around each egg, 1-1/2" larger than foam; cut out. Center eggs, rounded sides down, on fleece pieces. Cover in same way as head. Glue egg sections together; smaller section is belly.
6. Glue head to body. Glue wing pieces together in pairs. Glue wings, straight edge up, to duck where head meets body; "x" on pattern indicates joining point.
7. To cover duck's feet, place small egg halves on orange felt, flat side down. Draw a line around each egg; cut out. Glue felt pieces to bottom of feet. With smaller end of egg toward front (toes), center large felt foot over top of egg. Glue felt edges to foam, leaving webbed end free. Glue feet to bottom of body as shown.
8. For umbrella, place cone lengthwise on wrong side of cotton fabric, flat side down. Draw a line around cone, 2" larger than foam. Trace second cone, drawing line at foam edge. Cut out. Cover umbrella in same way as duck's head and body, gluing smaller fabric piece to flat side of cone.
9. For umbrella handle, place foam handle on red felt, flat side down. Draw a line around handle, 2" larger than foam. Repeat. Cut out.
10. To cover handle, center rounded edge of foam handle on one felt piece cut in Step 9. Bring felt up to cover front and outside edge, clipping curves as needed. Glue and pin to secure. Repeat with second felt piece, covering back and inside edge of handle. Trim excess felt as needed.
11. Use knife tip to poke hole in flat end of cone. Glue lower 1" of handle into umbrella. In same way as before, cover 1" foam ball with 3" red circle. Glue flat side of ball to tip of umbrella. Spot glue umbrella to body as shown. Fold and glue duck's wings to hold umbrella.
12. Place green felt circle on duck's head. Fold back and spot glue front edge for brim. Glue fabric heart to brim. Fold extra felt at back of head, overlapping on either side; glue to secure.
