Contributing to Community Success

Night time vierw of TheDow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan

As part of its global commitment to sustainability, Dow looks to invest in programs and organizations that will have a long-term impact and serve as a starting point for widespread community involvement and growth. That is particularly vital in a struggling economy, such as that currently being experienced in Michigan. The list of organizations, projects, programs, events and activities that Dow sponsors or is involved with in Michigan is extensive, but most can be categorized into three areas of focus: enhancing education/job skills training, strengthening individuals and families, and spurring community growth.

What is Dow doing to improve communities?

Dow's innovative Community Success process allows strategic Dow communities to provide qualitative and quantitative inputs on their quality of life issues and what Dow's appropriate role is - whether it's directly addressing community needs or using its leadership position to influence other organizations.

In early 2008, a team led by Jeff Martin, Community Relations Leader, conducted an anonymous community relations assessment in the Great Lakes Bay Area.  The team is collaborating with Dow leadership and community stakeholders to develop a Community Success Plan, which will be launched in early to mid-2009.  The goal of the plan is to better align the community's needs with Dow's intellectual and business know-how to maximize the long-term benefit to the community.
